I am still planning to do a font/typography based concentration--using text visually and exploring the relationship between visual cues within fonts and the written words--involving pictures as well.

I am kind of leaning towards doing a lot of silkscreening for this--especially using photos, which I haven't done before. Perhaps a progression of a basic font I design, then fonts as pure form, then fonts interacting with photos...progressing to a more complex exploration of statements and fonts juxtaposed with photos (would I have to take them?)

Anyway, I like this (Polish?) movie poster for Fatal Attraction a lot. The circular arm/snake is sweet graphically (and has interesting implications) Regardless, a very interesting style--seems simultaneously modern and sort of old--retro? especially with the stylized hand and the flatness.

Also, Soviet propaganda...always so cool!

Another Car

Yup. I'm hoping to finish a series of four vintage toy cars. The styles (of the two), unfortunately, are somewhat disparate (if I make the wheels more similar, will that fix it? Should I make the wheels more similar?) Also, I am not sure that I will use this yellow color--the original car was red, but I don't want two red cars.

flickr account

Hello!

Check out my flickr portfolio--for college application's art supplement. Not finished with it--I still have to fill in the descriptions and figure out titles.

I am still thinking of fonts for my concentration--with an emphasis on the pure graphic nature of fonts, challenging assumptions about their nature and use, rather than sheer typography. Challenging perceptions about the messages of different fonts as well, perhaps? I don't know exactly what angle to take on this...

Anyway, more to come.

Ok, Mouneer al-Shaarani:

The theme seems to have become graphic art from type...

Hello!

I really like this artist's silkscreening--while it can get a bit busy and muddy, I like the bold colors and shapes mixed with (and interacting with!) the literal black-and-white photos.

And to include big names, I like Calder's 3D work--but the same styles can go for 2D as well.

Yet more art--I really like Mouneer Al-Sharaani's work (unfortunately, there is no good site to view his work--I will upload a couple photos as well--I have a magazine with more info on him, but could not find the photos online)--using typography very graphically to create art--using varied takes on fonts and arrangements, and basic colors. Of course, I am drawn to the minimalist ones. Arabic, apparently, is quite a bit different than English in its typographical flexibility, and so this would not be as easy to replicate in English...but it would be fun to try :
Here is a take on an English version of art with type. Some of his work, I love--again, the more basic stuff. Some of it gets too busy, commercial (losing the rawness) or grafitti-esque (in a bad way) to me.

Finally, while it is not exactly a style, this is very cool. So fun! I don't even know where to begin!

(not sure about that big space in the middle of the post. It won't go away. Sorry.)

car!

Well, I don't have a picture of my still life piece... so here is something I am going to silkscreen--t-shirts, etc--and maybe a few prints. I dunno why the red looks so odd and grainy...at least to me. Anyway, in real life the red would be a better color and not odd and grainy.

hello!

ummm...I have thought some about my concentration, typefaces would be cool, or maybe some other graphic design concentration...I could do a magazine or something and design a typeface for it, as well.

Silkscreening would be fun too, at least for something (breadth, quality, concentration...)
